- command of 807 sqdn the first operational seafire sqdn Sept 1942 (ref: Aces High)
BUT alternate reference states:
[- commanded 801 after it reformed at Stretton, following the sinking of HMS Ark Royal the previous month (ref: Sturtivant & Ballance)]
- took part in Operation Torch, the North African landings, the sqdn shooting down 2 French aircraft and damaging 2 others, MacDonald-Hall claiming one of these aircraft, from HMS Furious, 807 sqdn 11.1942 
- subsequently corsair instructor at Puttalam, Ceylon until the end of the war.
- killed as oldest helicopter pilot in accident in 1990 .
