History


MV Adula was built as a Rapana class auxillary carrier from a tanker. Built by Blythswood, Adula was launched on 28 January 1937, and completed in March 1937. Taken over for conversion and conversion completed in February 1944.

Adula was a MAC conversion conceived and designed by the shipping company which owned this class of ships; the plan was initially rejected by the Navy but later accepeted. Generally similar to previous MAC conversions.

Adula operated as an escort throughout the war. Returned to merchant service postwar, she was scrapped at Briton Ferry in 1953.
