HMS Assistance 1945

History

The original HMS Assistance took part in the search expedition of HMS Resolute commanded by Captain Henry Kellett looking for the famous Sir John Franklin expedition of 1845. The HMS Resolute was stuck in ice and abandoned in 1854 along with three other vessels including HMS Assistance.

The Second World War HMS Assistance was an aircraft depot and repair ship. She did not have a flight deck and saw duties largely in Home Waters.
