History

Queen (D-19) was built as a Ruler class escort carrier in the USA at Seattle-Tacoma. She was originally named USS St Andrews ACV/AVG-49. She was laid down 12 March 1943, launched 2 August 1943, and transferred and commissioned in the Royal Navy on 7 December 1943.

The Ruler class ships were the third group of escort carriers built in the USA for the Royal Navy, and were generally similar to the preceding "Attacker" Class. The modifications carried out to the earlier class after their arrival in the UK were incorporated in the "Ruler" Class during construction. Many of the class were used as amphibious support carriers, taking part in the invasion of Southern France. Others supported Eastern Fleet operations against Burma and Malaya, and some served with the British Pacific Fleet as escorts for the Fleet Train.

HMS Queen's war service included Atlantic, Norway and Arctic convoys. As a Convoy escort she shared the sinking of the German Uboat U-711 with aircraft from HMS Trumpeter on 4 May 1945.

Queen returned to the USN on 31 October 1946, and became mercantile Roebiah 1948, President Marcos 1966 and Luck One 1972. Scrapped at Kaohsiung 1972.
