History

HMS Slinger (D-26) was built in the USA at Seattle-Tacoma as USS Chatham AVG-32, CVE-32. She was laid down on 25 May 1942. She was completed 11 August 1943 by Willamette I&S (Portland) and launched 19 September 1943. She was transferred to the Royal Navy on 11 August 1943, and commissioned 11 August 1943. She was scrapped 1970.

Slinger built to the "Ruler" class was in the third group of escort carriers built in the USA for the Royal Navy, and were generally similar to the preceding "Attacker" Class. The modifications carried out to the earlier class after their arrival in the UK were incorporated in the "Ruler" Class during construction. Many of the class were used as amphibious support carriers, taking part in the invasion of Southern France. Others supported Eastern Fleet operations against Burma and Malaya, and some served with the British Pacific Fleet as escorts for the Fleet Train.

HMS Slinger's wartime career was as an assault carrier then escort carrier serving with the British Pacific Fleet as escort for the Fleet Train 1945 and involvement in Okinawa 1945.
