Acavus was built by Workman Clark and launched 24 November 1934. She was completed in January 1935 as a tanker and subsequently converted as a MAC ship at Falmouth, where conversion was completed in October 1943. This conversion was conceived and designed by the shipping company which owned the ships; the plan was initially rejected by the Navy but later accepetedAcavus served in the North Atlantic throughout the Second World War. She returned to merchant service postwar and named Iacara in 1952. She was scrapped at La Seine in 1963.
