Operational History and Background

The squadron officially formed at Brunswick in April 1945 as a fighter squadron with 18 Corsair IVs, embarking in July 1945 on HMS Rajah for the UK.

The squadron disembarked at Machrihanish at the beginning of August 1945, but the plan to join the 4th Carrier Air Group for HMS Illustrious in the British Pacific Fleet were cancelled, and the squadron disbanded on VJ-day 1945.
