Operational History and Background

The squadron formed at Stretton as a fighter squadron in November 1942 with 6 Sea Hurricane Ibs, moving the following month to Charlton Horethorne.
In March 1943 the squadron re-equipped with 9 Seafire IICs, remaining shore-based at St Merryn until May, then transferred to Machrihanish.

The squadron disbanded in June 1943 at Turnhouse to form 816 and 842 squadrons.
