I was a WAAF during the war & just wanted to add a little incident in 1944 or 1945. Some of those people who are still with us may remember docking in Wellington, New Zealand & a dance was held for the crew. We in camp were asked to attend.
During the dance the band/orchestra played "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas" The emotion that was felt was enormous & I doubt that there was a dry eye amongst all the Officers & Crew. The homesickness was felt & it left a lasting impression on me & I am sure a lot of others - crew & visitors alike. Still does. |
