HMS Vengeance as Minas Gerais A-11

HMS Vengeance's fate hangs in the balance. On Tuesday 16th October 2001, HMS Vengeance was de-commissioned as NAeL Minas Gerais by the Brazilian Navy and is currently at the Naval Dockyard at Rio de Janeiro. The ship has had limited maintenance since then. 

The proposed Vengeance Naval Aviation Heritage Museum will be dedicated to Naval Aviation and the restoring and displaying historic aircraft of the World War II, Korean Conflict and Modern eras. This unique Museum will pay special tribute to naval and maritime aviation of Britain, Brazil and Australia and remind us all of the significant role that naval pilots, aviators, support crews and the ship's crews played in securing our freedom.

The aim of this website is to support the Friends to safeguard the aircraft carrier for posterity. The plan is to bring the ship back to the UK and preserve her as a living memorial to the Fleet Arm and Worldwide naval aviation heritage from its origins at the beginning of the 20th century till today, in war and peacetime. The proposal is being made to convert the ship into a floating museum in Southern England, options being looked at include the Fal Estuary, Torbay, Plymouth and Southampton, UK.

The Friends passionately believe that this great ship will be a fitting tribute to all those who have died to protect our freedom - past and present - as well as provide a wonderful attraction for education and enjoyment alike.
