HMS Vengeance and Vosper Thornycroft Business Partnership
The Vengeance Campaign to date is all about partnerships and a major
player in the world's industries, Vosper Thornycroft is being invited to
discuss in joining us in saving the VENGEANCE and hopefully assisting in
the Vengeance Naval Aviation Heritage Museum venture.
An established supplier to the UK's Royal Navy, VT has worked closely
with the Ministry of Defence over many years building a wide range of warship
types. Vosper Thornycroft Ship Building Division is to progress plans
for its involvement in the construction of the Royal Navy’s new Type 45
destroyer following the signing of a legally binding agreement with the
Prime Contractor BAE SYSTEMS. Production of the first modules on the first-of-class
Type 45, HMS Daring, is due to start in mid-2003 in the new Portsmouth
facilities and production will continue until at least 2008. VT’s involvement
in the programme will sustain some 800 employees and provide quality work
for a full mix of shipbuilding trades during that period.
New Type 45 destroyer to be built by VT
The proposal of one of the leading berthing options and proximity of
the former wartime aircraft carrier to the VT facilities will provide an
excellent opportunity for Vosper Thornycroft in its future promotional
and production activities once the shgip is returned from Brazil.
The link of VT with Brazil and warships is not new, having built the 6
Vosper Thornycroft Mk 10 type frigates now serving in the Marinho do Brasil/
Brazilian Navy.
