The Friends of HMS Vengeance intends to promote future generations interest in our joint heritage by providing a business partnership which will provide a foundation both for co-operation both in the UK and Europe but also with Brazil, along with commercial promotion and public relations, and training leading to employment and for further and higher education in aerospace, naval and maritime industries, information technology and heritage related businesses.

Our Heritage and Business Partnership Mission
The Friends of HMS Vengeance are committed to reinvesting in our national community. We have chosen to contribute our unique resources toward enhancing business and shaping our future at the local, national and international levels by developing co-operation and partnerships with the business community.

Goals
We believe that an educated, involved, and informed public is critical to our country's future. For that reason, we are starting to develop heritage, business and education partnerships with HMS Vengeance interested parties, involving a variety of business and heritage companies across the country and internationally, ranging from retail, shipbuilding & aerospace, to engineering, information technology, oceanography, and leisure & tourism sectors.

Given the long heritage ties of the ship to Brazil the Friends of HMS Vengeance wish to ensure a continued relationship between UK and Brazil. One of the opportunities for partnership will be with the Business sector. Brazil is the UK’s largest export market in Latin America. UK exports to Brazil in 2000 totalled £775m. Highest value exports included: organic chemicals; pharmaceuticals; electrical machinery; road vehicles and telecommunication equipment. Imports from Brazil in 2000 totalled £1,158m. Highest value exports included: meat; pulp and waste paper; footwear; tobacco; power generation machinery; vegetables and fruit. During the current financial year, Trade Partners UK have offered financial support for 22 trade exhibitions/fairs and 6 seminars in Brazil as well as 10 trade missions for UK companies to visit Brazil.

UK International Trade minister Baroness Symons who embarked on a high-profile trade mission to South America in March 2002 along with more than a dozen captains of UK industry, from a range of sectors including automotive, machinery, media, IT, business services, oil and gas sectors, said on her return:

                 “When I visited Brazil this summer with the Prime Minister and a senior
                 business team, I saw at first hand the many excellent opportunities that
                 there are for business. Many British companies already work closely with
                 their Brazilian counterparts. But clearly the opportunities for a much closer
                 business relationship are there, and I very much hope to facilitate such a
                 development.”

The business delegation included:
 -   Dr Ellis Armstrong, Group Vice President, BP;
 -   Mike Boden, Latin America Director, Rolls-Royce plc;
 -   John Collier, Director of Operations, the International Development Consortium;
 -   Richard Davies, Director International, Central and South America, Mott MacDonald;
 -   Jim Edwards, Director New Ventures, JC Bamford Excavators Ltd;
 -   William Friedrich, Deputy Chief Executive, BG Group;
 -   Sir Peter Heap KCMG, Consultant for Amerada Hess;
 -   Sir Graham Hearne, Chairman, Enterprise Oil plc;
 -   Peter Marshall, DVB, Technical Director, UK Digital Television Group;

 -   Nick Page, Chief Operating Officer, Travelex plc;

The Energy Industries Council (EIC), in partnership with the Association Electromechanical Industry (BEAMA) will be bringing 22 companies to Brazil on a Trade Mission sponsored by Trade Partners UK (Trade Partners UK is the British Government’s new organisation providing trade support services for British companies trading in world markets. Also later in 2002 there will be missions by Petrobras and others to the UK, and will reach a peak in September 2002 when the UK will have the largst national stand at the Rio Oil & Gas Show, the biggest oil show in the southern hemisphere

Aerospace, Naval Shipbuilding and IT Partnerships

The Friends of HMS Vengeance aim to maintain the close link between the past and future of the Britain's aerospace, and shipbuilding heritage. The 21st Century is an exciting period for the future of British Naval Aviation and we hope to help in shaping our common future by proposing to develop Business Partnerships in association with this historic aircraft carrier . Proposed activities may include:

UK Future Aircraft Carrier Programme

The most ambitious programme, and cornerstone of the Royal Navy's power projection force in  the future, is the future aircraft carrier, Carrier Vertical & Fixed-Wing (CVF) project. At 40-50,000 tonnes, the two new carriers will be twice the size of the existing Invincible-class carriers, and twice the size of the former HMS Vengeance. Two teams, led by BAE Systems (with Harland and Wolff and Rolls Royce), and Thales (with Raytheon, BMT and Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems) respectively, have been awarded contracts by the MoD defence procurement executive to study the three alternative configurations - CTOL, STOVL and STOBAR - and key ship technologies. The prime contractor selection will be made in 2004 with an in-service date of 2012. The second ship should enter service in 2015.

The Friends of HMS Vengeance wish to strengthen the link with the CVF project and provide opportunities for the Aerospace and Naval shipbuilding industries to promote their developments on this historic aircraft carrier. Notable partnerships will be explored with:

Vengeance and Retail Company Partnerships
An example of British retail companies that may have an interest to work with the Friends of HMS Vengeance and that have had recent success in Brazil include:

                 History & Heraldry Ltd, a Rotherham-based manufacturer of gifts, built its
                 exports activity to half of its current annual turnover after only three years of
                 exporting. History & Heraldry won the New exporter of the year award in 2001.
                 Adding to its success, the company has just appointed Jubilee as its distributor in
                 Brazil after receiving contacts and advice from the British Consulate General in São
                 Paulo.
